A New Portal for Clean Ports: Introducing DriveCleanPorts.org by Catalyst Mobility

Ports have always been places where global commerce meets local communities. But did you know that ports are also becoming one of the most important proving grounds for the future of clean transportation?

This week, Catalyst Mobility™ is proud to launch DriveCleanPorts.org, a new online hub dedicated to the clean ports initiatives helping accelerate zero-emission freight across the United States. The new website brings the great work currently underway at ports across the country together in one place, making it easier for fleets, industry partners, policymakers, community members, and other stakeholders to learn about projects and funding opportunities, follow the latest news, and find information about upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.

Ports Can Help Drive the Future of Freight

Every day, ports connect businesses and communities to goods moving across the country and around the world. That activity also makes ports critical places to accelerate the transition to cleaner freight. By supporting the adoption of zero-emission trucks, cargo-handling equipment, and charging infrastructure, investments at ports can deliver benefits far beyond the terminal gates. Such investments can improve air quality in nearby communities, strengthen freight corridors, build confidence in emerging technologies, and help create the infrastructure needed to support zero-emission goods movement at scale.

That’s why ports are a critical part of Catalyst Mobility’s mission. For more than 30 years, Catalyst Mobility has brought together industry leaders, policymakers, innovators, and communities to move clean transportation solutions from concept to reality. Formed through the combination of CALSTART and Forth, Catalyst Mobility is a global nonprofit working to advance clean, equitable, and affordable transportation for people and goods. Our work at ports brings that mission to some of the most important transportation hubs in the country.

Clean Ports Work Across the Country

Through partnerships with ports, public agencies, fleets, and other stakeholders, Catalyst Mobility is supporting projects across major coastal gateways and inland freight corridors.

  • At the Port of Baltimore, Catalyst Mobility is partnering with the Maryland Port Administration on programs funded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Clean Ports Program. These efforts are designed to reduce barriers to adoption by expanding cost-effective access to zero-emission trucks, cargo-handling equipment, and charging infrastructure.
  • Across Illinois, Catalyst Mobility is working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and port districts along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers to develop decarbonization and climate resiliency plans. The work will support rural economies, strengthen resilience, and improve quality of life across 23 riverfront counties.
  • At the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the San Pedro Bay Ports Truck Voucher Incentive Program is helping accelerate the deployment of zero-emission drayage trucks. Funded through the ports’ Clean Truck Fund, the program represents a major investment in cleaner goods movement and improved air quality for surrounding communities.
  • At the Port of New York and New Jersey, new incentive programs supported by the EPA Clean Ports Program are expanding access to zero-emission drayage trucks, yard trucks, and charging infrastructure.
  • Catalyst Mobility is partnering with the Port of Oakland to design, implement, and administer the Port of Oakland Truck Loaner Program, which will give operators opportunities to experience zero-emission Class 8 trucks through $0 short-term leases while helping the region continue its transition toward cleaner freight.
  • Our work also extends to the Northwest Seaport Alliance, connecting clean transportation initiatives across an increasingly broad network of ports and freight corridors.

Taken together, these projects demonstrate what clean freight can look like at scale and how investments made at individual ports can create momentum throughout the national transportation system.

One Place to Connect It All

DriveCleanPorts.org is a hub for port programs across the country; it’s a home for funding updates and voucher processing, and it’s where the programs connect with the people who can benefit from them the most. Visitors to the site can take advantage of the programs and partnerships shaping each project, stay current on the latest developments, and find information about upcoming events and opportunities.

As more zero-emission trucks and equipment enter service, charging networks grow, and clean freight programs move from planning to implementation, the site will serve as a central resource for following that progress. The transition to zero-emission freight will require collaboration across industries, agencies, communities, and regions. Ports offer an opportunity to bring those partners together and to turn investments made today into cleaner air, stronger supply chains, and a more sustainable freight system for the future.
