PASADENA, Calif. – Representing international industry, government, utility, sustainability, and innovation leaders in clean transportation, the CALSTART Board of Directors voted to retain its Chair, elect a new Vice Chair and Board Secretary, and welcome three new Directors.

The Board unanimously voted to retain Karen Hamberg, Vice President, Sustainability and External Affairs at Westport Fuel Systems, as its Chair. Westport Fuel Systems, headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, engineers, manufactures and supplies advanced clean-burning engines, systems, and components that enable the deployment of low-carbon fuels.

Ms. Hamberg was named to Canada’s Clean50TM in 2016 and Canada’s Clean16TM in 2018 for her contributions to advance clean transportation policy and regulatory frameworks. She also serves on the British Columbia Regional Board of Directors of the Nature Conservancy of Canada and is the past Chair of the United Way of the Lower Mainland’s 2019 Campaign Cabinet.

“Karen was elected Chair in 2017 and has tirelessly led the CALSTART Board through a period of rapid growth and expansion in the organization, including the successful international launch of our Global Commercial Vehicle Drive to Zero Program,” said CALSTART CEO and President John Boesel.

The new Vice Chair of the CALSTART Board of Directors is Scott Phillippi, Senior Director of Automotive Maintenance and Engineering International Operations for UPS. Mr. Phillippi is responsible for UPS’s international fleet maintenance operations, automotive engineering, global advanced propulsion projects, and fleet related sustainability issues.

Katie Sloan, Director of eMobility and Building Electrification at Southern California Edison was elected Board Secretary. Ms. Sloan is responsible for the utility’s vehicle and electrification programs and services with a mission to help California get seven million electric vehicles on the road by 2030.

New Directors elected to the CALSTART Board include Nicole Faulk (Vice President, Corporate Services at Georgia Power), Cynthia Williams (Global Director for Sustainability, Homologation, and Compliance at Ford Motor Company), and Colleen Jansen (Chief Marketing Officer at ChargePoint).

“The CALSTART Board of Directors are leaders in the utility, public policy, private sector, and government agencies and play a critical role in accelerating the growth of the clean transportation sector,” said Boesel. “They bring a wealth of experience and diverse industry perspectives to enable the development and deployment of clean technology solutions to support our nation’s economic, public health, climate, and job creation interests.”

It was also announced that longtime CALSTART Board members, Pat Romano (President and Chief Executive Officer at ChargePoint) and Bob Holycross (Vice President, Sustainability, Environment, and Safety Engineering at Ford Motor Company) would be stepping down from the Board after years of distinguished service and contributions.

“The CALSTART Board of Directors and executive team are grateful for Pat and Bob’s strategic and thoughtful guidance,” said Chair Hamberg. “CALSTART’s current growth trajectory and associated geographic expansion are in large part due to the leadership of a strong and diverse Board of Directors representing a dynamic clean transportation industry.”
