WASHINGTON, D.C: On August 2nd, the Senate confirmed former Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-N.Y.) to be the next Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration, 71-23.

As an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), FTA supports transit systems nationwide through federal funding—including buses, subways, light rail, commuter rail, trolleys and ferries.

In response to this news, CALSTART’s Head of Policy, Trisha DelloIacono, issued the following statement:

“We look forward to working with Administrator Molinaro as he takes the helm of an agency essential to supporting how people move efficiently in this country.

“The Federal Transit Administration is vitally important in connecting communities to jobs and services with a focus on advancing innovative transportation technologies and supporting the modernization of transit systems.

“Administrator Molinaro is no stranger to public service—and we trust that his deep support for public transit, coupled with his pragmatism, will enable the agency to leverage emerging transportation technologies for more efficient long-term transit improvements. In doing so, the FTA can continue its path to supporting livelihoods and driving broad-based economic growth in all U.S. states and territories.

“For more than three decades, CALSTART has championed a whole-system approach to designing public transportation networks – making low-footprint transportation modes competitive with traditional methods while reducing regulatory barriers to expanding and constructing more efficient transit systems.

“We are excited to support the new Administrator in his efforts to enhance public transit options and improve mobility for communities across the country.”
