Program Overview
CALSTART, with support from New Energy Nexus (NEX), manages the PowerForward – Battery Manufacturing Grant Program, funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC). PowerForward is California’s market-accelerating, $25 million grant program designed to:
- Attract and retain zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) battery manufacturing in California
- Directly and indirectly create high-quality jobs
- Create positive economic impacts that benefit local communities and priority populations
- Contribute to California’s goal of zero-emission transportation

Grant Public Workshop Announcement

Hosted by CALSTART
Join us for a public workshop designed to:
- Present and discuss concepts for a grant funding opportunity that will facilitate ZEV battery manufacturing
-
Seek feedback on the design of the solicitation and subsequent sub-grants, solicitation process, application process, and sub-grant implementation process.
- Inform attendees about the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (AVTM) loan program, and possible funding through the Manufacturing Energy Supply Office (MESC), available through the U.S. Department of Energy.
- Award distribution scenarios
- Eligible activities
Oral comments will be accepted during the workshop.
Written comments will be accepted through the Docket.
