Eleanor Johnstone
Lead Project Manager – East Coast Ports
Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5)
Work History
Eleanor Johnstone has been working in the clean energy and transportation space for nearly 10 years, supporting non-profit, corporate, and government entities nationwide. Passionate about the micro and macro elements of the decarbonization challenge, she has collaborated with a variety of stakeholders in commercial freight at the intersection of policy, technology, financing, and community engagement.
At GNA (now TRC Companies), she helped marine terminal operators, ocean carriers and logistics fleets generate carbon credits through California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and separately co-facilitated the San Pedro Bay Ports’ Sustainable Supply Chain Advisory Committee. Between 2019 and 2024, Eleanor led research and writing of the annual State of Sustainable Fleets report, sponsored by leading fleets, manufacturers, energy providers and trade associations. In recent years, she has designed and delivered market assessments for fleets, utilities, and municipalities pursuing low- and no- carbon technologies, capturing behavioral and technical insights to inform strategy.
Eleanor is especially enthusiastic about working with partners on the positive integration of impactful community engagement and workforce development programs into clean transportation projects. At CALSTART, Eleanor is managing port-centric projects along the East Coast, working closely with stakeholders in New York, New Jersey and Maryland to advance economically viable and regionally sustainable decarbonization. As part of the Northeast Regional Office, she is supporting port-aligned fleet and corridor initiatives in the region while advancing industry dialogue and education with colleagues nationwide.
