3 things Floridians should know about solar, EV tax credit rollbacks

Now that Republicans in Washington have passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the clock is ticking. A suite of programs that help Americans afford clean energy technology will be phased out in a complex series of successive deadlines.

Levi Kamolnick, federal policy director at Calstart, a national nonprofit that advocates for clean transportation, said EV chargers alone create jobs.

“There are at least hundreds of charging sites in the Tampa Bay area,” he said. “Those are consistent jobs around maintenance, engineering, construction.

The potential widespread impact of the new law shows how even people who didn’t use the tax credits still benefited, clean energy advocates argue, through cleaner air, fewer greenhouse gas emissions and a stronger economy.

“There are a lot of things in our taxes we don’t use — that’s part of the social contract,” said Jason Zimbler, light duty vehicle director for Calstart. “We’re in the middle of a transition…early adopters are helping to increase volumes that will bring the price (of new technology) down.”
