PASADENA, CA—CALSTART, a national and international clean transportation nonprofit, is thrilled to be selected as the third-party administrator of the Washington State Incentive Program for on-road medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) clean transportation vehicles and off-road vehicles and equipment. This program is led at the state level by Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and supported with funding from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act (CCA).

In response to this news, CALSTART’s President and CEO, John Boesel, stated:

“CALSTART is honored to be selected to administer Washington state’s new zero-emission vehicle incentive program. Importantly, this program plays a crucial and catalytic role in jump-starting the state’s zero-emission truck market powered by made-in-Washington energy. We applaud Washington state for leading the way in cutting carbon emissions from transportation, advancing electrification to reduce costs and improve air quality. With our experience in managing similar programs in other states and our deep technical expertise, we are ready to get started alongside partners equally committed to Washington’s zero-emission future.”

BACKGROUND

This new point-of-sale voucher incentive program is designed to encourage faster adoption of zero-emission MHD vehicles to further state equity and climate goals. In addition to funding administration by CALSTART, the program will have public engagement, outreach, and education support from community-based organizations including the Breaking Barriers Collaborative, Clean & Prosperous Washington, Seattle Latino Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and Energy Infrastructure Partners.

Program specifics will be available later in summer or early fall 2025; purchaser voucher application submissions will begin in fall.

Prospective partners, including OEMs, dealers and fleets, can learn more about the program by contacting CALSTART’s Deputy Director of Incentive Programs, Betz Mayer, at bmayer@calstart.org.
