Administration’s 2022 Budget Request Reflects CALSTART’s Recommended Cash-Payment Incentive Option for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles

PASADENA, CA, May 28, 2021 – CALSTART commends the Biden-Harris Administration on its release of the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Request today, which furthers the American Jobs Plan’s priorities of a whole-of-government approach to addressing the climate crisis, transitioning to a clean energy grid, addressing racial inequities due to transportation emissions, and supporting American workers and U.S. manufacturing across the clean transportation supply chain.

In particular, CALSTART lauds the Administration’s call for a new zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty investment tax credit (ITC) that can be claimed as a cash payment in-lieu of ITC, as called for the CALSTART-led National Zero-Emission Truck Coalition. Making the incentive accessible to fleets of all sizes, as quickly as possible, will allow the United States to continue to compete in clean truck manufacturing, drive fleet purchases of zero-emission commercial vehicles, and aggressively decarbonize goods movement across the Nation.
