From Charging Up to Plugging-In: EV Realty Opens San Bernardino Charging Hub

The dream was to create a mega-charging hub in San Bernardino, California, that could serve over 200 medium- and heavy-duty trucks per day. Fast forward to Spring 2026, and that dream is now a reality.

Introduction

Last year, EV Realty broke ground on its transformational fast-charging depot to provide charging for electric trucks in the Inland Empire region and broader SoCal area. CALSTART previously covered the project in September 2025, and we are now happy to announce that the site is open and available to contracted fleet customers.

EV Realty, a CALSTART member company, leveraged infrastructure development expertise, a strong group of external project partners, and multiple state and local incentive programs to bring this site to life without major delays. The team’s ability to find 9 MW of power in a convenient and power-constrained region set the project up for success, and strong collaboration with Southern California Edison throughout the process helped avoid energization delays and scheduling problems.

Other key construction and technology partners for the project include Kempower, ParWest, and Synop. The charging site’s construction was also supported by grants provided by the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Carl Moyer Memorial Air Quality Standards Attainment Program and the California Energy Commission’s EnergIIZE Commercial Vehicles Project. Both these programs allowed for the advancement of zero-emission trucks (ZETs) by supporting the construction of charging infrastructure.

In September, we learned that EV Realty had raised $75 million to scale up operations and provide charging solutions in Southern California and beyond. The opening of this charging hub is just the latest sign of momentum for the company and the broader zero-emission freight transition. Zero-emission trucks and supporting infrastructure are rapidly moving beyond pilot scale to full commercial deployment.

The Facility

The new charging hub can support over 200 medium- and heavy-duty trucks per day thanks to its 76 high-power charging ports that are connected to that 9 MW of power. This includes trucks that require a combined charging system (CCS) and those that require a megawatt charging system (MCS) connector. MCS is a newer, higher power charging standard used by some manufacturers, such as Tesla, for class 8 electric trucks. This site is among the first in the country to offer MCS, providing flexibility for fleets and a sign of where things are heading for commercial truck electrification.

Using technology from charging hardware company Kempower, the site has a distributed charging architecture that can move power around the site to give customers what they need, when they need it. The highest power chargers can deliver up to 1.2 MW for MCS and 500kW for CCS charging ports. The facility also has bobtail “pull-in” chargers and high-speed “pull-through” chargers that can accommodate trailers. In addition to this range of charging capabilities, the site features amenities like automatic gates, security fencing, excellent lighting, security cameras, on-site staff, restrooms, remote monitoring, and driver parking.

From a policy standpoint, the construction and opening of this charging hub is a huge win for the clean transportation industry and signals continued strength for investment into sites like the San Bernardino charging hub.

Location

Some may be wondering, why San Bernardino specifically? It’s simple: proximity.

The site is strategically placed near the San Bernardino Intermodal Facility with several industrial warehouses nearby and both I-10 and I-215, allowing commercial trucks to come and charge as needed. Fleets in nearby industrial facilities can take advantage of these chargers and the site’s amenities on their routes.

For fleets on routes servicing the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, this station is also the perfect rest stop for charging. The San Bernardino charging site is approximately 75 miles away from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Thanks to the proximity to these major interstates and ports, in addition to the San Bernardino International Airport and BNSF Intermodal, this charging station will most definitely help to keep heavy supply chain movement going.

Community Impact

In addition to this strategic location placing, the site brings numerous economic benefits to the city of San Bernardino. Many on-site jobs were created throughout the construction process, with some employment continuing with on-site staff, maintenance, and cleaning roles. The site was empty before the charging hub was constructed. It has now transformed into a hub not only for customers to charge their vehicles, but for potential employees to gain professional experience in the clean transportation industry as well.

For fleets based in San Bernardino, the charging site also provides economic benefits in the form of opportunity. These fleets now have the chance to optimize their charging operations using the hub, which could drive down charging costs depending on their current situation.

In terms of environmental impact, the charging hub will continue to contribute to a reduction in harmful diesel emissions like nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, which will help to cut down on health issues stemming from air pollution. The site will also help the state meet goals for greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Building On Momentum

According to CALSTART’s Zeroing In On ZETs latest report, public and private charging remains a challenge; charging infrastructure needs to be addressed to build the next wave of adoption. As CALSTART members like EV Realty resolve this issue by building charging infrastructure, it is important that we build on this momentum to help contribute to the adoption and deployment of ZETs moving forward.

This momentum is crucial in continuing to move ZETs and clean transportation forward, even when it comes to things like utility policy. With collaboration from policy stakeholders, organizations like EV Realty, and government programs aimed at bringing more charging infrastructure for these vehicles, we can take steps toward building a cleaner future together.

What Comes Next?

With the San Bernardino location up and running, we may be seeing more from EV Realty in their charging hub network. As we reported in September 2025, the company has new sites under development in Torrance and Livermore, California. And, as of November 2025, EV Realty has also acquired property in Stockton to build a site offering charging services to vehicles helping freight and logistics operations in Northern California.

These plans to open charging sites point to growing support of ZETs and other medium- and heavy-duty vehicles — momentum that, if paired with adoption and deployment, can advance the clean transportation industry for all.
