Work History

While earning her B.S. in Environmental Science at Weber State University, Kaila served as the university’s first Zero Waste Coordinator, where she designed and implemented sustainability assessments and waste diversion roadmaps, advancing key environmental goals. Her efforts were recognized with the Ivory Prize for Excellence in Student Leadership and Community Engagement. Additionally, as an Environmental Planner Intern at T.Y. Lin International, she contributed to major transportation projects across California, drafting key deliverables such as Community Impact Assessments.

Prior to joining CALSTART, Kaila earned the Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential and provided contract services developing sustainability assessments, roadmaps, and standards for agriculture and civil engineering clients.

At CALSTART, Kaila specializes in managing data-driven projects and technical fleet assistance tools that accelerate the transition to zero emission transportation. Her work on the annual Zeroing in on Zero Emission Buses report and the Joint Electric Truck Scaling Initiative (JETSI) has helped translate one-of-a-kind datasets into actionable insights for fleets, policymakers, and industry leaders. Additionally, she manages data lake projects that facilitate rapid analysis and dissemination of CALSTART’s insights through interactive dashboards and automated reporting.
