Basil Latif

Data Scientist

Basil Latif joined CALSTART in September 2021 and is a Lead Data Scientist supporting the Validation and Assessment team. He works on several key initiatives building data pipelines, developing new data tools, and conducting data analysis for CALSTART. He supports the CARB Infoshed, CARB Advanced Clean Trucks tracking applications, and Frito Lay ZANZEFF Projects. He has also developed a Last-mile delivery estimation tool to reduce emissions and a dashboard with the counts of all zero-emission vehicles deployed in California to date.  His goal is to centralize CALSTART’s data internally to build better tools while making CALSTART a hub for national Medium and Heavy Duty truck data insights.

Prior to this position, he was an independent freelancer working with many data-driven businesses. He earned the title of “Top Rated Plus” freelancer on Upwork.com which meant he was in the top 10% of freelancers on the platform. In over a year freelancing, he engaged top startups in the Bay Area, helped local businesses digitize their processes, and automated numerous business processes with data collection.

Aside from working with data, he enjoys road cycling, hiking, and attending standup comedy shows. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Loyola Marymount University and received a scholarship to get his M.S. in Business Analytics from UC Irvine.
